Casino Ajax by the Quarter Horse Track
This page covers Casino Ajax, the slots room at Ajax Downs, for readers who already know Mohawk. It answers three things: the distance from Guelph Line, what is on the floor, and how the room runs during the labour disruption.
From Guelph Line to Alexander's Crossing
Casino Ajax sits at 50 Alexander's Crossing, Ajax, 91 km east-northeast of Mohawk. That is a straight line, not road distance. Pickering Casino Resort is a little closer, at 85 km, on the same bearing. The toll-free line is 1-866-445-3939.
The track is different too. Ajax Downs is a quarter horse racetrack, while Mohawk runs standardbreds in harness. Casino Ajax is the slots casino on that site.
History here is short and plain. OLG Slots at Ajax Downs opened in 2006, the year the track took the Ajax Downs name. It had opened as Picov Downs. The slots were renamed Casino Ajax in 2018, and if you play cards at Mohawk, read the next section before heading east.
Slots, electronic tables, no poker room
Great Canadian lists slot machines, electronic table games and a restaurant and bar at Casino Ajax. It lists no live table games and no poker room. Mohawk has both, with a poker room open Thursday to Sunday from noon until 4 in the morning. The Getaway Restaurant is 19+, and the same Great Canadian Rewards card works at both rooms.
Racing at Ajax Downs runs on a short list of days. The AGCO approved 22 quarter horse race days there for 2026, and the meet opened on May 6. Mohawk, by comparison, races five nights a week.
Open through the labour disruption
Unifor reported a strike by nearly 900 workers at Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino Resort from July 31, 2026. As of the operator's October 2, 2026 update, Casino Ajax stays open 24/7. Vehicles pass the picket line about one per minute. Parking in the outdoor lot is complimentary.
The Getaway Restaurant is temporarily open noon to 8 p.m., with a reduced menu. Bring two pieces of identification: original government-issued photo ID plus a secondary photo ID. Entry is 19+, as at every casino in Ontario.
